About Anilu Oms

Born in Havana, Cuba, Anilu Oms’ career in millinery and costume design actually began by accident. Having initially graduated from the Cuban Institute of Industrial Design, with a degree in graphic design, it was her husband, a Cuban filmmaker, who decided Oms would be the designer for a music video he was directing. This led to other costume design job offers for films and TV productions in Cuba.

Soon after, she was given  Costume Designer of the Year Award at the Cuban TV Film Festival.

After immigrating to the United States with her husband and daughter in 1992, her work carried her through multiple expressions of design.

As a costume designer, she worked on Spanish music videos, soap operas, and theater productions in Miami, Florida. For several years now, Oms has been working as a milliner with her daughter a New York fashion designer Fabiola Arias for whom she has created innovativative headpieces  for fashion shows.

The press has been enthusiastic with the proposal of this designer, giving Oms positive reviews to her projects. It is quite obvious that she designs for those who view fashion as art and self-expression.

Her headpieces have been seen in Gloria Estefan music video 2012 "Hotel Nacional", New York Fashion Week, on the catwalks of Japan Fashion Week, Shanghai World Expo 2010., Fashion Houston 2011, among others.

All of my Headpieces are my own unique designs. They are hand sewn and created using quality materials. Each creation can take up to eighty hours to complete.
